Revolutions, we will never know but our two publicans may well
have been pleased at the turn of events which brought in the
customers.
It will also have confirmed the simple observation that, after
the parish church, the pub was at the centre of the community,
even if it was pretty much a male orientated place.
All of which helps explain why Peter and I decided we would
tell the story of Didsbury through its pubs.
For a long time we have maintained that the stories behind
the doors of even the humblest of homes is a way into the
history of a place.
It is a simple idea and over the years has led us into the

churches and synagogues as well as pubs and hotels.
What all of them have in common is that here people came
together and therein lie the stories which help bring an area
alive.
