Ireland who, at 74, was still working as a labourer.
All of them earned their living from manual work or the
slightly more precarious occupation of selling on the streets.
Most were single, although a few were widowers, and while
the largest single group had been born here, there were those
from the rest of Lancashire, as well as Ireland, Scotland and
some even came from London.
And that brings me back
to Mr. Bianchi, who just a
few years before he started
pulling pints at the
Weaver’s Arms, was living
with his family on Tib
Street. He had been born in
1788 and when asked his
place of birth had said
“foreign parts”, which it
turns out was Italy.
