This is the story about two
generations of William James
Curtis, born on the 22nd July
31 years apart. These two
witty men, with their 100 year
old skill for selling “Fake
News”, inspired me to write
this book. When I first delved
into the history of the two
Billys, I never hoped to have
uncovered so much
information and I would like to
thank the present Curtis
family, especially Christine, for
opening up the doors to their
family knowledge. For those of
you who have bought this book
for the laughs it contains and
are not interested in the dates
and timelines, I have provided
you with an abridged version
of Billy’s Weekly Liar’s beginnings.
The short version… There are two Billy’s that were involved
with Billy’s Weekly Liar: a father and son born 31 years apart.
Billy Senior was born in Preston and started his business by
selling cycles. He was in the Army in WWI and when he came
out he converted the business into a joke shop and started the
newspaper Billy’s Weekly Liar, which he sold in Blackpool.
Billy’s Weekly Liar was a spoof newspaper with outrageous
