One last publication that could have been influenced by the
two WWI war time journals is one that was created at the
beginning of WWII called Berlin Liar. This one was fashioned by
the Curtis’ in 1940. In what was a remarkable endeavour to
bring humour to the nation, Bolton’s Publishers, in which The
Curtis’ had a stake, printed a flier which cocked a snoot at the
Nazis. Unlike Billy’s Weekly Liar, this was a smaller 2 page
paper using (what has been heralded the best typeface ever
designed for body copy) Caslon 9pt, printed on Large Post
Quarto (10 x 8 inches wide) on uncoated white stock and,
judging from the show through, it was not much thicker than
        0.0048 inches thick (90gsm).
            But the style of humour
        was exactly the same as
Billy’s Weekly Liar and, as an
        example, here is a snippet
        that would have certainly
        infuriated the Führer.
