ABOUT THE AUTHOR

I have been painting pictures since I was a
boy; infact, as I often says “I was born an
artist”. I arrived in Chorlton in 1970 after a
4 year training course in Art and Design. It
seems to me that, in this changing world of
diversity, not many people nowadays are
still doing the job that they trained for.
Having had a fruitful life in advertising
and exhibitions, I retired at 60 to pursue
the pleasure of painting. It was at this stage
that I re-established a long lost friendship
with local historian Andrew Simpson. As we
say, “Peter paints the pictures and Andrew
tells the stories.”
Andrew is a well-known author and
historian and together we set about
delivering the history of Chorlton, Andrew
providing the research, historic background
and stories, and me taking the pictures and
providing paintings and graphic design for
the story boards and books.
Together, Andrew and I have written:
